This Week: 5/29/17

Our last theme is dinosaurs. We already have a few experts in our class!  We are open for sharing for dino items any day of the week from now on.  If your child brings in something dino, we will have them take center stage and tell us all about it.  They could bring in something different everyday if they wish.

We are writing stories and reading them out loud. We are playing CVC  and sight word games.

For reading, we need to know both the sounds of letters with great speed and have a memorized bank of words that we are not able to sound out.  We have been playing around the world with sight words and are getting super quick at reading our sight words! Our memorized sight words begin a lifetime of memorizing words for us to use in reading. See if your student knows all ten!

Sight Words: the, and, a, I, to, can, me, like, see, are
Bonus Words: it, we, was, good, go, for, from, is, by, my

Math: We are practicing writing our numbers 1-30 with no reversals. We are practicing solving addition story problems by putting groups together. We are practicing solving subtraction story problems by taking away from a whole group.

Letter Sound PracticeTop of Page

Practicing at home for letters, sounds and motions:

Ask your student if they remember how to sing these letters. Sample: "Aa says /a/." Practice the letters and sounds for speed. We want them to know these very quickly. The faster your student can say the sounds when they see the letter, the faster they are able to process sounds inside words later this year. Please practice for speed at home.
