I have been teaching at Oakhills since August of 1999. Prior to 1999 I taught in both Southern California and then Colorado Springs. I feel that teaching children to “read, write, and do arithmetic” is an important and a rewarding job. Good teachers are lifelong learners – over the years I have taken many courses. For example, I completed a course called Education Through Music (ETM) that helps me use music to enhance children’s learning in the classroom. I also completed a rigorous geology course to deepen my background understanding for the Pebbles, Sand and Silt science unit we do in second grade. I have participated in the district's twenty-first century courses, Common Core trainings and technology courses.
I’ve been married to my husband for 37 years and we have two adult children. My husband was a 36 year career educator and retired last year. Our daughter and our son both attended school in the Eureka Union School District from K-8th grades and then went on to Granite Bay High School. Both attended universities for 4 years and graduated with their Bachelors degrees. Our daughter is a pharmaceutical sales rep/trainer for Bayer and lives in Danville, Ca. Our son is a strategic account manager for Proximo Spirits, married his college sweetheart last October, and moved to her hometown of Newport Beach, Ca.
My hobbies include hiking, gardening, reading, shopping and traveling. I love the outdoors and prefer the mountains and ocean to the city any day. Dining out with my husband and family is relaxing for me. Mexican food, sushi and any kind of seafood are my personal favorites.
